The publication that became Out originated in March 1973 as a single-page newsletter produced by the year-old "gay liberation" organization Gay Alternatives Pittsburgh; as the newsletter's page count increased, its name changed to Pittsburgh Gay News and a tabloid newspaper format was adopted. In February 1977, PGN released the first issue of Gay Life, a handbill-sized glossy that was revamped in November 1979 to become a magazine titled Out. Out has been published in its current tabloid newspaper format since August 1980. Out Publishing Co. Inc.'s current publishers Tony Molnar-Strejcek and Ed Molnar-Strejcek, purchased the company in November 1994. |
