New home for GLCC

This month the Gay and Lesbian Community Center will be leaving Squirrel Hill and moving to a new home downtown at 210 Grant Street.

With significant renovations, the new location will feature a staffed reception area as well as conference rooms for both small and large group meetings. There will also be office spaces for four other LGBT nonprofit groups, an area for health services, a serving kitchen, kitchenette, a gallery-style art exhibit space, comfortable socializing areas and the largest LGBT library in western Pennsylvania.

According to Gary McKillop, GLCC director of development, the new location provides a safe, handicapped-accessible, visible and attractive space with options for parking and proximity to public transportation, all in a centralized location.

Costs for the renovations are estimated to exceed $150,000. Gifts from the Delta Foundation and the Lambda Foundation will provide some support. To cover the remainder of the costs, the Board of Directors of the GLCC has initiated a capital campaign. Included are opportunities to name a space in honor of a friend, partner, mentor or special occasion, and donations at any level will be appreciated.

The GLCC has provided advocacy, programming, resources, education and support for LGBT individuals and their supporters in western Pennsylvania for the past 30 years. To make a donation or to find out more about the new GLCC, contact Gary McKillop at quickkey@live.com or 412-727-0400.
